Sofitel Adelaide is celebrating six months of operation in style, last week winning two top accolades at the Design Inn 2022 Australasia-Pacific Hotel Design Awards.
The Sofitel Adelaide team took home Hotel of the Year in the New Build category in addition to a ‘Highly Commended’ Paul Davis Hotel Design Award, recognising and celebrating excellence in Australian hotel design. The industry-based award values the vital contribution made by interior design to the Australian hotel industry.
An annual event, the Design Inn Awards recognise exceptional hotel projects. This year’s event was held in Adelaide as part of the annual AHICE conference, and received nominations for projects located in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific (including Hawaii) that were completed and opened during 2021.
The four awards – for new-build properties, conversions, refurbishments and an overall winner, the Paul Davis Award – recognise exceptional projects that demonstrate design innovation, a commitment to sustainability design practices and deliver exceptional guest experience.
Sofitel Adelaide’s General Manager Rachael Harman said, “We are extremely proud and humbled to have been presented with not one, but two accolades at the Design Inn awards. It’s a brilliant way to commemorate our first six months of being open. You really don’t have to look far to find examples of extraordinary design and innovation at Sofitel Adelaide and for the team and I, it’s a privilege to deliver a hotel experience each day that truly captures the imagination of guests through engaging art and design.”
Located in the true heart of the city on Currie Street, the $150 million flagship hotel welcomed its first guests on 4 November 2021, becoming the first new-build, international five-star hotel to open in Adelaide’s CBD in 30 years.
Well-known for its exceptional attention to detail and design which stay true to the hotel’s theme of ‘light and flow’, most interiors at the hotel were custom designed – from the burgundy coloured chandeliers featured in each guest room to the bespoke vintage-inspired wallpaper commissioned by Sofitel for the hotel’s club lounge.
Notably, nearly every piece of art, furniture and even the flooring was selected and overseen by members of the Palumbo family – Sofitel Adelaide’s owner and developer. This includes the impressive marble used throughout which was sourced personally by Daniel Palumbo and his family from quarries in Carrara, Italy. Attention to detail was maintained during the installation phase, evidenced by features such as the book leaf cut used to join the veins of marble together in the lobby.
