Exquisite design is the keystone of any leading luxury hotel. As Adelaide’s first new international five-star hotel in 30 years, Sofitel does not disappoint.
Sofitel’s intoxicating interiors were imagined by Adelaide-raised interior designer, Carl Almeida, a partner of P49 DEESIGN. This award-winning global design practice has been behind other iconic hotels and resorts around the world including the famous Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi (Vietnam), Raffles Udaipur (India), Fairmont Mumbai (India) and upcoming SO/ Melbourne in Australia.
The design vision brings to life three quintessential Adelaide themes within the hotel experience – city of churches, arts and culture, and of course, wine. These three narratives are on display at every turn. They have been carefully woven into our contemporary interiors to create a sense of light and flow, of old and new, of secular and sacred.
Special acknowledgment for Sofitel Adelaide’s cultural link to the city of Bordeaux in France. This city shares the hotel’s ethos for high culture, heritage and great food and wine which is evident in many of the hotel’s finer design details.
Modern manifestations of churches are also prominent, inspired by cathedrals in both Adelaide and France. This is done by merging their floor patterns for a bespoke signature floor design found throughout the hotel. All showers at Sofitel Adelaide also feature an iconic mosaic design inspired by the stained-glass windows of prominent Adelaide cathedrals.
Field of Dreams, an original art piece by Australian fine-art photographer, Alexia Sinclair, forms the centrepiece of the hotel lobby. Segments of this historic French-inspired artwork appear in custom-made lightboxes that dramatically illuminate the entire porte-cochère ceiling – a bewitching teaser of what lies inside the hotel.
A striking flowing red wine-inspired chandelier immediately catches the eye upon entry. It draws guests from the lobby into the hotel’s lobby bar area for a relaxed luxury encounter.
Throughout the hotel, wide windows frame the hotel’s amazing views across the city, coast and Adelaide Hills. A sense of space in many of the guestrooms is maximised by stunning fully open concept bathrooms with luxurious vanities and free-standing bathtubs.
Architecturally, the hotel commands attention, delivering uncomplicated luxury grounded in faultless functionality.
